Umberto Veronesi is an oncologist of international stature and a pioneer in the fight against cancer. He founded the European School of Oncology.
He has been leading the National Institute of Cancer in Milan for 18 years, and since 1995 he directs the European Institute of oncology (IEO).
Veronesi is specialized in the cure of breast cancer and has created a revolutionary technique, the quadrantectomy, avoiding the complete asportation of the breast.
He has been Italian Minister of Health in 2000, and promotes and organizes through his foundation initiatives for scientific information and communication.
