PIRELLI: THE TENTH EDITION OF THE PIRELLI INTERNETIONAL AWARD TO A MULTIMEDIA WORK THAT EXPLAINS “BLACK HOLES”

THE PHYSICS NOBEL PRIZE RICCARDO GIACCONI HANDS THE AWARD TO THE WINNER OF THE PIRELLI COMPETITION DEDICATED TO THE COMMUNICATION OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

Rome, Italy, May 16th 2006 – The awards of the tenth edition of the Pirelli Internetional Award (www.pirelliaward.com), the first international multimedia competition launched by Pirelli in 1996 and carried out entirely on the Internet, have been assigned today in the historic Temple of Hadrian, in Rome, Italy. Awards have been granted to winners during a prize-giving ceremony which has been attended by, among others, Riccardo Giacconi, Nobel prize for Physics, Pasquale Pistorio, Vice-President of Confindustria and member of the Award's Jury,

Marco Tronchetti Provera, President of the Pirelli Group, Carlo Massarini, Italian TV anchorman and journalist specializing in new technologies, and Paola Catapano, science journalist for CERN in Geneva.

After having evaluated more than 1,000 entries, coming from all over the world, the international Jury has assigned the awards, subdivided into the categories: Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Life Sciences, ICT and, for the best Italian work, the "Generazione Alice" Award.
