The Global Junior Challenge:
Youth Partnership for the Pirelli Internetional Award
The Global Junior Challenge is a global award promoted by the Digital Youth Consortium, a non-profit organization founded by the Municipality of Rome and six major ICT companies. The intention of the award, dedicated to young people and to schools, is to identify and reward best practices on the use of new technologies in education and training of youngsters. An international jury selects the finalists and the winners are announced during the award ceremony that takes place in Rome, at the Campidoglio City Hall, in Autumn 2004.
The award is dedicated to all young people, from school children to teenagers and youth taking their first steps on the job market; it involves individual citizens as well as cities, institutions, local authorities, businesses, NGOs, and communities.
The award's mission is that of identifying and rewarding best practices on the use of new technologies in education and training of youngsters, therefore the Challenge concerns all those involved in child and youth education and training.
Due to its educational focus, the Global Junior Challenge has joined forces with the Pirelli Internetional Award with the common goal of an harmonious development and growth of the "digital youngsters" in the Information Society, thereby promoting Rome, Italy as a center of excellence in multimedia.
This year, the Global Junior Challenge award will pay
special attention to a new category of projects: "Women
& equal opportunities." The projects of this category
